We are researchers at Loughborough University and our aim is to educate young people on the benefits and realities of breastfeeding.
Breastfeeding rates in the UK are still very low, despite efforts to promote the array of health benefits that breastfeeding brings to both mother and baby. Part of this may be because of underlying negative attitudes towards breastfeeding that may be related to societal disapproval, body image concerns, or limited understanding.
Research suggests that underlying attitudes towards breastfeeding are one of the biggest predictors of whether or not a mother chooses to breastfeed her baby. Therefore, we have developed the Feeding a Baby guides which are designed to challenge and, hopefully, change underlying, negative attitudes towards breastfeeding.
This resources we have developed are specifically aimed at young people; both those that are pregnant and those that are not. If you work with pregnant girls, please see our Health Professionals page. For those working in schools or youth centres who want to offer education on breastfeeding, please visit our Schools page. If you are taking part in our research, or interested in doing so, please visit our Get Involved page.
