If you are interested in promoting breastfeeding and reducing breastfeeding stigma as part of your wider curriculum, we have two resources to offer you and your students.
The Feeding a Baby guide for teenagers
What is it?
The Feeding a Baby guide is designed to be used by secondary school aged pupils, who we recommend are Year 9 onwards.
The Feeding a Baby guide is an educational booklet for teenagers that offers information and education on the benefits and realities of breastfeeding. This is combined with practical tasks that are designed to challenge – and hopefully change – any underlying negative attitudes towards breastfeeding.
How does it work?
The factual, educational content is relevant for both boys and girls. Some of the activities are written from the point of view of a girl, but these can be completed by boys by changing how the question / statement is framed.
The guide has been designed as a small booklet, divided into 5 sections. Each of the sections contains information and facts, followed by one or more thought tasks to get young people thinking about their attitudes towards breastfeeding.
The Feeding a Baby Teachers’ Handbook
What is it?
The Feeding a Baby Teachers’ handbook is a simple resource to help teachers deliver the guide to their class. It is filled with ideas for discussion points and practical tasks that can be linked to the topic. The handbook also includes two surveys (to be completed before and after the guide has been worked through) as well as tips on how the class data generated from these surveys can be used for further study.
